Cafe Provencal - St. Louis

I have been here at least 4 times before and enjoy their food. The most recent two times I’ve been here service has really gone downhill. Last time I went my wife ordered a French onion soup specifically as her entree but they brought it out with starters putting her in the awkward situation of eating it now or taken back to the kitchen to be kept warm. Tonight we went as what have would have been a wind down of what has been a tough week. We were taken to table cramped to another where one of the chairs could not be even pulled out. She put down the menus on the table and walked away before we even tried to sit or figure out a solution. She walks back and we state our issue she drags the table to the near host stand and entrance which puts it in an equally awkward space. We look at her and she says “well if you want a new table then just say you want a different table” then proceeds to take us to another one in stuffed in a corner. I guess it would be understandable if the restaurant was jam packed but there were clearly other tables. We just decided to leave instead. Not sure if we will be back. Jason was our server and he was absolutely amazing. He rearranged the tables to accommodate our birthday group without a blink. He was very attentive! Everyone enjoyed their food but my onion soup had no French bread/crouton in it and the salad Nicoise did not seem to have dressing on it. Both tasted fine, but I have had their onion soup several times and I’m certain it had toasted French bread in it. I know, I should have told Jason, and he would have taken care of it. We had a party of fourteen and he was in a good rhythm, so no problem. I think the kitchen staff may have messed up and these little things should be brought to their attention. The Cafe is one of my personal favorite places so I will definitely return. Thanks! Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
