I used to frequent this Indian restaurant for nearly a year and it was always fantastic. However, it recently came under new management/ownership in the past two weeks. I decided to order takeout, but it took well over an hour to arrive. The rice was overcooked, the curries were watery, the peshwari naans were terrible, the chicken tikka meat did not taste authentic, and the lamb was suspiciously closer to raw than cooked. It's unfortunate that the restaurant has changed hands because it used to be excellent. Unfortunately, my experience this time was a total letdown and I ended up spending £35 for a disappointing meal. I do not recommend visiting this restaurant.
We dined at this restaurant in 2008 during a visit from the United States. Although we have Indian food in America as well, the meal here was quite good. However, I do recall it being a bit pricey as I spent £80 for two people. The dining room and atmosphere were awesome. Interestingly, we were the first customers to dine that evening at 6:00pm on a Friday, suggesting that Scots dine later than we do. The service was pleasant and the food was fantastic. I have heard that the restaurant has declined in quality since then, but based on my experience nearly 8 years ago, I will definitely give it another try next time I am in Stirling.
We have been dining at East India for over twenty years, since we first met, and have never been disappointed. The food, service, ambiance, and overall presentation have always impressed us. During our most recent visit a couple of weeks ago, we enjoyed the usual high-quality experience that we have come to expect, especially since they now offer a great value package for two that includes starters, main courses, and accompaniments. It's unfortunate that there weren't many other customers there, as this restaurant deserves more recognition. Despite being a bit out of the city center and lacking a prominent facade, East India is definitely worth a visit. We will definitely be returning.
