Genki Sushi - Sydney

Contrary to many of the other reviews here, I actually did not mind this place? The restaurant itself was very spacious with plenty of seating for groups of any size. The sushi was prepared fresh and delivered to you after a very VERY short wait on a small train, which was a great novelty experience. All in all, although a tad pricey, it wasn't bad! :)

I've been hearing about genki sushi how it's popular else where in the world and the idea of choosing your sushi and then having it arrive and stopping at your section from the conveyor belt I tried genki sushi spontaneously when i walked passed the sign. I went downstairs to be find a starkly white interior walls, with splashes of orange and the area to be quite spacious and empty. I was also surprised as my first contact in the place, I was greeted by a Caucasian person (nothing wrong with that) who greeted me in Japanese (minus the typical animated voice from Japanese people ) then I was assisted by another worker (also non Japanese). No offence, I'm not trying to be stereotypical but it's kind of feels a bit more authentic plus the vibe is different when it's a real Japanese person greeting and working in a sushi place. I sat in the booth and looked through the menu in the iPad (total bonus cause I got to charge my iPhone from their iPad charger ;) ...) I realised the range of sushis and menu wasn't that much of a variety AND so expensive as well. I ended up ordering a udon meal cause I thought that'll be arriving from the conveyor belt. When I realised it didn't, I ordered a plate of a two piece nigiri (it was like $3.80 or something for them two pieces) At the end of the conveyor belt I could see through the end where the chefs are working on the sushis, I was also watching them place the sushis on the plates that's shape like bullet trains and even watching them peer through the hole and watch the sushi ride away through the conveyor belt The Bullet train plate of sushi was also quite s-l-o-w. I was expecting them super speedy one likes in Japan. Anyways, my order of nigiri came slowly. There a little beeping noise that comes when your plate arrives and more beeping noise to let you know that you have to push a button for the little bullet train plate to go back to the kitchen. Anyways food tasted ok, wasn't keen on the price. I spent $16 for a two piece nigiri, a small bowl of udon with soup and a large tempura ball of something. Disappointed the takoyaki price was pretty pricey for four or three pieces. Nice little experience, don't think I'd come back though. A lot more reasonably priced sushis else where

I simply just love it. Both the taste and the trains! Have tried many types of food including Sushi, Sashimi and Rice bowls. No idea why the score is so low

This 1 point is for the staff, brilliant customer service. Even sushi hub makes better maki rolls than this, just a bit disappointed. The maki rolls(pictured) showed how undedicated they are to sushi making, I did not expect they use the pre-sliced sashimi which are obviously for nigiri, yet it costs more than nearby outlets like umi, sushi hotaru, sushi rio. Spelling mistake for miso soup- 'miso shiru' to 'miso shiro' indicate the owner probably is not Japanese and don't even have time to ask Japanese staff to proofread the menu at all.
