Far as I could see, it’s the only cafe in this small, pleasant town, occupying a corner of the square, with seating inside and out. The morning I visited, it was fronted by an entertaining man with a European accent (called Jerry? , who was friendly and looked after us all with cheery banter. He was on the ball, multitasking away impressively. As was the kitchen, because my drink and food came up quickly and hot. Amazingly good pot of char—was craving tea. Had the veggie breakfast, which was decent. Highlight the mushrooms; lowlight poor veggie sausages (it’s not enough veggie sausages contain no meat—they need flavour too . Overall, Whelan’s is a lovely café, and well worth visiting.
Good old fashioned town cafe, nothing fancy and no frills just good traditional fare at great prices, prepared and served by two lovely local ladies, who deserve a local tourist information mention as well. Thanks ladies much appreciated
From time to time our office staff decide to have a Whelans Café brunch. The order is telephoned in. a collection time agreed and a member of staff then drives up to collect. My favourite is a double sausage bap and today it was as good as the one before as the one before that! The sausages are cooked to perfection and despite them then being placed in a fresh soft bap, bagged up, collected and then driven back they are still very warm if not slightly hot. An ideal brunch that keeps me going until my evening meal. I have colleagues who thoroughly enjoy their baguette filled with bacon, egg, sausage mushrooms. That's great for them but I like the single ingredient bap and Whelans will produce whatever you ask for assuming they've got it in stock. It's an excellent establishment where simple food is cooked correctly.
Great Little Café for Breakfast as the hotel doesn 't serve it. We went a bit off piste with the blackboard menu, but this was no trouble to them..Great Value
Enjoyed a hearty brekkie every morning when we stayed at Wiviliscombe. It kept us going till a late lunch everyday. The price was very reasonable and the service was friendly and efficient. This was recommended to us by the pub that we were staying at as they don’t have breakfast available. Great choice.
