My friend and I went for Sunday lunch, and the usual chef was away. We ordered the beef roast. As much as the meal went, the beef was lovely, plentiful. The roast potatoes were the size of the top of my thumb, and 5 of them ! Vegetables were delicious, sprouting broccoli and carrots. The Yorkshire pudding was OK. But, no mash, no boiled. The meal was lacking, and as if they had ran out of potatoes. I decided to have a pudding, I chose Apple Strudle, although the bowl and the custard was nuked by microwave. The struddle was cold..however they changed for fresh peice of Strudle and it was hot. The staff were attentive, pleasant and I guess they have had better days and I will go again when the usual chefs returned.
Booked a table for 5 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs, requested if we could be seated in the bar area as we will have dogs with us. Arrived 20 minutes early thinking it wouldn't be a problem as thought we could sit and have a drink before our meal. When we arrived we were asked if we had booked then asked what we wanted to drink whilst we were all stood around a very small area, staff seemed flustered and then we were shown to our table in the dining room not the bar as requested. We were given menus which were not the same as we had viewed on line, quite limited options. Most of us went for the Sunday roast, 2 beef and 2 pork loin with crackling and apple sauce, and 1 fish and chips. We waited a good 20 minutes before anyone came to take our orders, it wasn't particularly busy that afternoon either. Whilst waiting for our food to arrive we ordered another pint and a coke, the pint arrived but no coke. In all it took an hour for food to arrive and I wish I could say it was worth the wait. The fish and chips was disappointing, the fish was sat on about 14 of the smallest chips we have ever seen! The roast beef arrived which looked nice but there was an onion chutney on the plate which wasn't mentioned on the menu and spoilt the meal for one of our party. The pork loin with crackling was a pork chop with its fat burnt, we got 3 dry small roast potatoes, a smear of mash, a long carrot that wasn't cooked and some tasteless greens. I'm going to say that some of the food seemed to come from the freezer especially the chips, very disappointing and to charge £17 each for the pork roast (pork chop) and fish and handful of frozen chips, and £18 for the roast beef was a total rip off! Safe to say we won't be back
