Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónA great local diner with cozy atmosphere and friendly service. I had an Italian omelet (sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheddar with a side of blueberry pancakes instead of the home fries and toast (and awesome option! . The hot chocolate was delicious as well. (visited 1/15/22
It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to Mel’s, but it was on our way to a destination and so we figured we’d stop there for breakfast. Now I know why I haven’t been there in so long. It will be a long time if ever I return. I must say that our waitress was delightful, accommodating, and although a little bit disheveled really quite lovely. If only the food were the same. I partially blame myself because I should’ve stuck with something simple like scrambled eggs or they’re out of house muffins. Instead I got the crabcake Benedict. As always I got the sauce on the side and when the hollandaise came, I could tell from looking at it that it was straight out of a powdered package. I wish that was the worst of it. I don’t know why I expected something close to a real crabcake, given that I live in New England and all, but I did. Instead what I got were clearly crabcakes that were bought at a commissary and stored in the freezer. To add insult to injury, they were not pan fried or grilled as they should’ve been but microwaved and so that resulted in a soggy mess of the goop that tasted nothing like crab at all. I will say that the poached eggs were good. Cooked just right. The grilled tomatoes were cold and tasted like they had been stored in a fridge since 1987. My husband did enjoy his French toast, and the pure maple syrup that he had it with it at an up charge of four dollars for the ounce. All in all, there are so many places to get a decent breakfast in the Boston area and Mel’s is not one of them. I guess they’re crowded because it’s the only game in town. That’s all I can think of.
Family owned and operated. They were amazing and kept their doors open all through COVID with minimal staff. Food is awesome
Place is great! Plenty of food choices, very friendly staff, reasonable prices. I also love the decor. I’ve come back several times and never had a bad meal. Their muffins are absolutely incredible! Enjoy!
