Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónWe had a great time at the George and Falcon restaurant after a walk with our dog at Old Winchester Hill. The owners were friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. There were plenty of seating options, including arm chairs, regular tables, a veranda with garden tables, and benches by the river. The food was delicious and it was a pleasant surprise overall. It was a lovely day with a nice walk and a great meal.
Called in unplanned and had the best fish and chips ever. Fish was freshly cooked sea bass with a thin batter and it was so tasty. Although no sides on menu they happily did us some garlic mushrooms and onion rings cooked freshly and large portions. Would not hesitate to go back and try other items on the menu. Very freindly and welcoming
Very disappointing visit to the George Falcon for a Sunday roast. First visit for a few years and really looking to it but on arrival the virtually empty car park might have been a clue of what was to come. In fairness we received a friendly and warm welcome but it went downhill from that point forward. The pub was completely empty other than one other couple. We were invited to sit anywhere we wanted to, although we had booked so would have expected a table set up in readiness. We had a roast one beef and one lamb. The meals were delivered by two young waiters who thought the lamb was pork which was a tad amusing! We had to ask for sauces, not offered to us. We also had to then request cutlery, and after two attempts I eventually was given a child’s fork. The only choice of white wine was Pinot as they were awaiting a delivery the following day. To say the lamb was mainly fat and gristle is a fair description see photos. The beef was dry and tough. We pointed out the amount of fat on the lamb to the waitress and her only response was to tell us that as a rule she never has lamb at home as it’s always fatty! We asked her to raise with the chef as, frankly, we were amazed that he’d sent it out with so much fat. Heard nothing back and no apology. Will not return in a rush.
We thought we would give the place a try again as we haven't been since it has been taken over by new staff. We have always liked the actual pub. It's very spacious and the garden is lovely next to the river and it's dog friendly (bonus) We visited on a Thursday evening. It was quiet. The man behind the bar was friendly. The menu was very limited. We decided on a burger and scampi. It came out quickly. The portions were a fare size. The burger wasn't that great. A thin patty with a bit of bacon. No salad leaf or slice of tomato. Just meat in a bun. The peas were dreadful! Would have been good to use in a pea shooter to cause some damage though. The salad was fresh which was nice and the scampi was fine. Just a bit average but edible.
Another awesome meal at the George and Falcon awesome staff Chris thanks for looking after us again! Thanks Simon and Nat xx
