I came to do some work and needed a charger for my computer (forgot my in Omaha). And was given to one I suspect is the owner! Next time I'm in Winterset, I'm sure I'll come back! Food was amazing and cookie to die for!
We took my mom for lunch yesterday after we got fresh products on Farmer's Market and bought the sidewalk sale. I had the German burger who is lean pork with bacon saurkraut. Absolutely fantastic! I also pampered in the blackberry/berry pee, which I can't even explain how delicious it was. My Nabeby and Mom had the Ravioli special, which included a side salad, bread stick, drink and desert. They got 4 big meat / cheese house made ravioli with a mushroom and meat sauce. The desert was a rhubarb and peach bread pudding that simply melted into the mouth. Everything for $7.99!!!!!!!!!!!! Prices are very reasonable. The café is so juicy and the owners and the staff make you feel like you have always eaten it. Don't forget to try the German chocolates she holds in the old vault. Nothing like America. I can't expect to go to the Apple Dumpling Gang Night when one of the actors film behind the scenes of the movie and the meal is of course different dumplings with the whole American apple dumplings for desert. Film evening is another one I look forward to when the meal is from the theme of the movie! I definitely try the chocolate roasted chicken on Bike Night!
Beautiful café on the town square of Winterset!! Lisa, the owner, is absolutely fantastic and cooked a delicious homemade lunch for me, my mother and my friend. I have Celiac disease, so I called a few days before planning a lunch break on our tour through the covered bridges. Lisa went over and over to make sure I had a delicious gluten-free lunch. She cooked me meat jam, potatoes, green beans and a flourless cake. The meat was so moist, even though it had no flour. My mother (not gluten-free) ordered the State Fair award-winning quiche and even took a second home. Very recommended to stop for lunch when you are in winter set or travel around.
Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon quality food and people. Had a great chat with owner/Koch Lisa about Doctor Who during a mesmerizing Tuna Melt. The perfect amount of food for lunch before checking the six covered bridges that Dot Madison County. -P.S. selection of warm biscuits after each meal (I recommend the Double Chocolate Chip one).
One of my favorite places to eat for lunch in town! Located on the South West side of the square! Food was great and the prices were even better! Very friendly service I would recommend a lunch date here for anybody!
