It being a weekday there were plenty of spare tables outside, which is where I sat. The fish and chips arrived eventually, but the bored looking waitress just plonked the plate down and rushed off. Would I have liked vinegar? Yes! Would I have liked salt? Yes! Unfortunately I wasn't asked and neither of these condiments was on my table. I spotted a salt cellar on another table and quickly claimed it as mine, while the strong easterly wind cooled my food rather quickly.

En primer lugar, es genial en una noche de verano cenar al aire libre mirando a través de las palmeras hacia el mar. En segundo lugar, cuando estuvimos allí, el restaurante tenía más clientes españoles que extranjeros, lo cual suele ser una buena señal. En tercer lugar, la comida es bastante decente y tiene un precio razonable para una terraza en la playa en verano. Nuestro primer plato fue sopa de rape, que básicamente era una sopa de pescado con trozos de rape. La sopa estaba bien y la habría disfrutado más sin las finas rodajas de rape que no añadían nada al sabor o la textura. Luego compartimos un atún en tomate frío, que estaba muy sabroso. Después, ambos pedimos una buena ración de sardinas a la parrilla en la playa justo al otro lado del paseo marítimo, en una hoguera abierta. Las sardinas estaban bien y, excepcionalmente para Andalucía, no estaban excesivamente saladas. De postre, mi pareja tuvo flan mientras yo tuve flan con higos, que me pareció excelente. Con pan y mantequilla, una pinta de cerveza y un agua tónica, la cuenta fue de 50€. El servicio es errático, a veces sin sentido del humor, a veces con un sentido del humor ligeramente idiosincrásico, y finalmente tuvimos que ir dentro para pedir la cuenta, ¡a pesar de que nuevos clientes esperaban tomar nuestra mesa (¡a las 11.15pm!). Definitivamente volvería en los meses de verano ya que disfrutamos mucho tanto de la comida como de ver a los lugareños pasear por la tarde, ¡mientras el hombre que asaba las sardinas en la playa siempre tenía una pequeña audiencia de hombres locales sin nada mejor que hacer! El restaurante está lleno en temporada, pero como estás afuera, eso no parecía importar.

Las vieiras bebé estaban deliciosas, el jamón excepcional y ninguno de los entrantes decepcionó. El plato principal de carne, servido en una piedra caliente, estaba perfecto. El servicio fue amigable y, de hecho, humorístico, además de ser paciente, ya que nos fuimos realmente tarde. La cuenta, considerando todo lo que habíamos comido y bebido, fue muy razonable. Este pequeño restaurante está escondido detrás del Bar del Partido Socialista. ¡Si esto es Socialismo, quiero más!

What appears to be an unassuming bar on the street hides a little restaurant at the rear serving excellent food at really reasonable prices. Every first course I've tried over the years has been delicious. For a main course the Chuleta a la piedra, a big steak cooked on a very hot stone, is difficult to beat. Quality of the meat is first class, it's cooked to perfection and melts in the mouth. Rafa, the chef, is also an amateur magicien who'll suddenly make a silk handkerchief disappear and reappear, while service is carried out very professionally and with almost constant badinage by Belén, a character in her own right. Highly recommended both for the quality of the cuisine, the good price/qualtiy ratio and the friendly ambiance.

Lo siento, no puedo informar sobre qué era, pero si regreso a esta zona definitivamente volveré aquí.

Now diners are restricted to a small glum room behind the bar that they share with the cash desk and the entrance to the toilets (shielded by a wooden screen . The food was ok and the meat quite good. Service was irregular, the same guy seemingly looking after customers outside and preparing clients’ bills. Our bill was astronomical for what we had eaten, but on checking we found that two small beers had been charged at 36€ instead of 3,60€. The waiter was admirably adept with sums, as he calculated the overcharge in seconds, making me wonder why he hadn’t spotted the impossibility of the invoice that he had initially presented. An altogether disappointing evening.

Service was quite good considering the number of customers and the difficult access to some of the tables. Food was very average and the croquetas had to be sent back to be recooked as they were stone cold inside. The atmosphere was great but there is much better food at similar prices elsewhere in Madrid.

Large tureens of very hot (in all senses of the word) soup were placed in the middle of the table, surrounded by dishes of various meats and vegetables. Each reveller placed his choice food in the spicier or milder soup than let it cook. An almost constant flow of new ingredients made for an extensive menu. Flavours were varied, interesting, sometimes unexpected, but always good. I even enjoyed eating tripe (I never thought I’d say that). Service was efficient and charming. A splendid time was had by all.

Grandes cazuelas de sopa muy caliente (en todos los sentidos de la palabra) fueron colocadas en el medio de la mesa, rodeadas de platos de diversos tipos de carnes y verduras. Cada comensal colocaba su comida elegida en la sopa más picante o más suave y luego la cocinaba. Un flujo casi constante de nuevos ingredientes creaba un menú extenso. Los sabores eran variados, interesantes, a veces inesperados, pero siempre buenos. Incluso disfruté comiendo tripa (nunca pensé que diría eso). El servicio fue eficiente y encantador. Todos lo pasamos de maravilla.
