28.10.2024 - 06:33I love Full Bloom. First and foremost excellent friendly service provided by Francesco and Jenny. I dined at the bar. Amazing ambiance. I loved the artwork and the bookshelf had some unique reads on it. I am a bibliophile aka lover of books. I went with the Roasted Tenderloin upon Francesco’s recommendation. The Chickpea steak with sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts was all done up to perfection. Everything is made in house. It was filling and flavorful made with whole foods which is the way I like to eat and best of all everything is full vegan. Nice atmosphere and a short walk from South Beach. Recommended!

22.10.2024 - 05:10St. Francis Fountain is a pretty solid brunch spot that has plenty of vegan options which is awesome. There was quite the line when I went there for brunch this afternoon signed up on the clipboard outside. I was seated fairly soon though as I chose to sit on the counter. The vibe here is interesting as is pure hipster w/ a 1980s nostalgia meets a 1950s dinner. They even sell Alf Garbage Pail Kid Trading cards along w/ Nerds Twizzlers old school candy. I have an appreciation for many of the counter culture scenes including the Beats of the 1950s, the hippies of the 1960s, the punks of the 1970s along w/ the Grunge alternative scene of the 1990s yet never got into the hipster scene. The vegan brunch here was great though. I went w/ the Devil Burger which is fully vegan as comes w/ lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle on a sesame bun along w/ veganaise a pile of marinated grilled thinly sliced seitan. I added avocado grilled onions. It comes w/ a choice of a side which I chose the fries. I will be sure to be back to try a vegan version of the Nebulous Potato Thing. Despite not being into the hipster scene St. Francis Fountain does have plenty of vegan brunch options so recommend it for that alone. FOMO Whatevs, if you are a hipster vegan then this place is for you. YOLO

21.10.2024 - 08:44This Whole Foods has friendly staff. I was able to stock up on many essentials for my week-long stay in Phoenix. I stocked up on Dave’s Killer bread, Green Kale, Blueberries, sweet potatoes, avocado, yellow onions, green bell peppers, assorted varieties of apples, vine ripe tomato, organic unsweetened soy milk, lemons, limes, hummus, banana, non-dairy yoghurts, and canned beans. I would have given five stars yet was bummed that there are no bulk bins here. I suggest a much needed room for improvement would be to have bulk bins. At other Whole Foods I have shopped at over the years they usually have well stocked bulk bins with ample supply of nourishing variety. Since I am here only a week would have been nice to do one stop shopping here. As a result I had to head over to Sprouts to use their bulk bins. Suggestion: Have bulk bins here and next time I return will bump it up to five stars.

21.10.2024 - 08:02New Seasons Market is really solid. I love the staff that works here. Great selection of produce and products. There are many New Seasons Markets all over Portland. I am deducted one star because wasn't too keen on the salad bar here. As much as I love New Seasons I find the cooperatives here even better such as Alberta Coop and People's Coop. New Seasons though is a still a solid option and worth checking out!

20.10.2024 - 09:09The Bye and Bye is an all vegan bar in NE Portland. I am a teetotaler so don't drink yet am a longtime vegan so came here for the vegan food. Friendly service and comfortable ambience here. There is a wide range of vegan options to choose from. There was a couple of bowls that looked interesting. My server recommended the BBQ Brussels Bowl so this is what I went for. It came with BBQ tofu, Brussel sprouts, and brown rice. It was super tasty and nourishing. Recommended! Good size portion and price was affordable. I would definitely come back here to explore more of the menu.

19.10.2024 - 04:27Summertime rolls…Jane’s Addiction harmony in my head On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People’s Co-op. I lived walking distance from People’s Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service. This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People’s Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It’s the return and went to People’s Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer’s market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.

13.10.2024 - 06:22Recently me and my uncle went out for a bite. We were originally heading to Bissap Baobab where I just went to a stellar Elite Event. They didn't open until 5:30pm so instead we opted to go to Mission Chinese Food across the street. I knew about Mission Chinese for years and it was in my hood aka the Mission yet never went here until now. Danny Bowien aka chef/restauranteur is known for his creative self described weird Chinese cuisine and Danny even put out a Mission Chinese Vegan Cookbook which is awesome. Many vegan options on the menu that are vegan by default or can be customized vegan. Mission Chinese Food is both veg and non-veg. Danny also opened up a MCF in NYC where he is based and where I am from originally and so is my uncle. Coast to coast CA to NY. SF and NY are two great cities yet very different. Service was just fine and appreciate the recommendations from our waitress. Upon the suggestion of the waitress we went with two orders of Classic Chow Mein with mushrooms and Mongolian Longbeans done up with horseradish and Sichuan peppercorns. The food was quite alright. Ample portions. The longbeans were unique and flavorful with some heat aka spicy and the Chow Mein was good. We each enjoyed our Chow Mein and longbeans we shared family style. Feedback would have been nice to have the option to add tofu to the Chow Mein. Would have liked more veggies in the Chow Mein as here seems you order the veggies separate. Ambiance was spot on with dragon and Asian art/posters on the walls. Hip hop music played which was cool and unexpected. I liked the music. I have dined in places where the music took away from the meal yet here the music was cool so kudos and props to whoever was playing tunes here. Monday morning quarterback for the Sunday game would have shared a Chow Mein, Long Beans, and maybe ordered a tofu dish to get more variety. My uncle gives it three stars. He is a tough critic. I give it four stars. I can make a mean plant strong Chow Mein yet good to mix it up dining out in this lovely little city by the Bay with my uncle. I would return to scope out more of the menu.

11.10.2024 - 07:28I love the Tao of Tea. I went here in the day living in SE Portland first with a car and then car-free on a bicycle. I went with the Wild Forest Tulsi. I spent over three years in India over Eight Winters and Nine Trips. I wrote three memoirs on that period. On my early trips I remember when Tulsi became popular in India and would often have it there. Years later tulsi began to take off in the US and elsewhere around the world. The Wild Forest Tea was excellent. My server Alana was friendly and very kind. I got to meet Veerinder aka the owner of all the Tao of Tea. He was a gentleman and Sikh. Besides the tea here. The ambience is quite alright and peaceful. Think flowing waterfalls and statues of beauty along with classical South Indian dance. 5 stars is not enough.
