Fortunately they had had a cancellation and were able to fit us in, otherwise our Mother's Day treat could have been a disaster. We will book direct with the Swallows Nest in future. The staff, as always, were lovely and the food excellent.

Bar employees were very busy and stressed and clearly not happy to arrive over a large group and order food individually. But I called a week in advance to ask if we had to preorder a big group and the man I spoke with seemed confused and said someone would call me back what they did not. We couldn't really order food together in the bar and then share payments, how would have been too complicated. It took a long time for all of us to order by 1 employee and consequently food came gradually and some took a long time. We were warned against when we arrived, but we would have expected enough staff to cope with a large advance booking. Alternatively, the booking system should have given us the opportunity to book for lunch, before lunch break. Food was good and cheap, only do not recommend booking a table for a large group or at peak times.

Menu not expected afternoon tea style and waitress did provide alternative but didnt listen to food allergies and therefore the replacements werent eaten. Food bland and not what we expected from 4* hotel in Edinburgh. Overall disappointing and wouldnt recommend.

Restaurant /Chef's policy was NOT to allow customers to takeaway foods and unfortunately our good size, delicious leftovers went into the restaurant's bin and landfill. Friends recommended RuYi, we had a try and it was a hit! Seafood is always our favourite and we tried almost every options. Tingling prawns were so yummy. Then the flaming king prawn was like fireworks because they light on fire, very nice to look at and also yummy. For main we tried steamed fish with side of chinese broccoli. The fish was so soft and nice sauce. We had some Chardonnay with that and it was perfect. Waiters helped a lot to pick the food and drink. Great job! Thanks to our friends who find this place, we recommend this place very much.
