So far 435 reviews in french, 17 in english, 7 in dutch using a small window of opportunity to travel during Covid-19 pandemic we looked for a remote spot to safely relax and be happy. I trusted Michelin ratings, so I did not read any of the reviews beforehand. Checking what others had said before writing mine I was rather surprised of how critical some of them are. It must be a tough job to run a place like this. My husband and I fully enjoyed our 2 day stay in the chateau, one meal on the hill, one in Sodade, their bistro in the city (village down in the valley. For me it was a constant pleasure to be in the beautiful surroundings, both the outside and the inside. Sodade is offering real nice food for a real good price, but of course the gourmet dinner was the highlight. The chef does not bend for the pressure of chemistry in the kitchen, and does not loose his soul and Portugese roots, but blends all influences and probably personal preferences into a feast, celebrating local vegetables, meat, cheeses, fruit. Ah a delight. Supported by his excellent wife who runs an excellent team of people. Sitting in the garden of our room I noticed the table clothes are ironed before dressing the tables on the terrace : a detail that tells a long story. Adapting to Covid rules the tables inside are separated by folding screens, probably fixing one of the complaints I read. Thank you to the whole crew, to the family for this daring initiative (building a modern complex in these remote surroundings? , thank you for everything and I hope to return. Warmly recommended.

Having good ingredients so nearby is of course helping in realising wonderful meals. The cheese board at the end of the meal was irresistible, although I usually do not eat that much. Very nice meals.

A small restaurant that managed to stay in bussiness, following the tradition of french cuisine : foie gras, riz de veau, and very tasty desserts. recommend

Tucked away in a small old village, this is a gem. We followed the advice of the landlady where we stayed and are so happy about that. A nice bisque offered before our starter : an amazing creation of smoked eel wrapped with foie gras, followed by a perfect slowly roasted breast of duck with vegetables and a puree to die for. I had no space left to appreciate the intricate dessert at the full. Wines offered by the glass, all Covid rules followed impeccably. What a delight. Thank you so much.
