Part of the arts complex quiet, efficient service, well priced very good food. A great place to escape the crowds visiting Belem
Located in the Centro Cultural de Belem, Commenda offered a nice, large menu with something for everyone. I had a delicious mushroom risotto and my mom had the special of the day--salmon--which she said was fabulous. The view from the terrace was wonderful.
Location was lovely, a covered terrace. The service was odd to start with, a different waiter for each different phase i.e. being seated, drinks order being taken etc. We asked for table water (tap), we where briskly given bottled, branded water. It wasn't until the food was served that anyone was available to change the water. The bottle was taken away but no table water was ever provided. During the meal, I would have liked pepper for my pizza and no service staff where available. The pizza was ok and my friend had a nice chicken dish. We mamaged to ask for the bill, after waiting for about 10 minutes we needed to wait at the till to prompt the staff providing us with the bill. Service could have been improved if I had walked after staff, asking for basic level service. But as the lunch shift became busier, the level of being ignored increased. Despite ernest and polite attempts to gain a basic level of table service.
Museums often hide very good restaurants and it is here also the case. Bélem on Sunday late June is a tourist hell, but here we found calm. We shared several small courses kind of fusion between Portugal and Asia. It was a very good choice.
