I purchased the classic white cake from Gold belly. It is the best I have ever had a bit of a cake snob. ? Will order again!!
Archie fought for this business and his family continues the delicious Cleveland tradition. Beautiful pastry is displayed in an old fashioned simple manner. Specialty cakes are beautiful and while they are known for their white cake, the chocolate cake with chocolate icing we ordered had me telling people all day where I got it. No masks required now. Just some planning to know their open hours and if you go early, you are in for treats!! You will be treated well.
I have not had a full cake but the cupcakes meet the hype. Unfortunately it’s not really good for people who like retail bakery shopping. Only Fri/Sat right now. They still require masks and they provide them if you don’t have one, which is a nice nod to the evolved reality of life returning to normal post COVID. However they don’t offer basic coffee or water and, most infuriating, they require $5 to use a credit card and they won’t bend on this, including by charging a 50¢-75¢ fee which most other small businesses have taken to doing. I don’t respect this because I don’t like carrying cash and it’s too big of a hassle to have to do so much planning and work just to come here for small items. Kind of seems like they’d rather just sell the large cakes, which does seem to do a strong business anyway…
I was so disappointed in my cake. It was 9 inches and barely 3 inches high. I spent 89 dollars on a plain original hough bakery cake. I'll admit it tasted good but surely not worth my long anticipated childhood memories of Hough Bakery cake.
