We had a coupon for Fenek and were very happy with the deal, which included two full courses and drinks. The service was very good, except for a rather long wait for the mains, but nothing to worry too much about. The highlight for me was the entree, beautifully prepared arancini balls with rustic flavor. My main course was the snapper, cooked well, but I made a mistake with the menu choice as I didn't notice the addition of chorizo - a calamity for a semi-vegetarian who only eats fish once a week. However, I managed to pick out all the chorizo from the sauce to take home for my dog! My partner ordered the steak, which he said was well-cooked and tender, served with mashed potatoes.
It 's hard work being a Maltese person in a Brisbane!! Was so glad to find this gem! Delicious 'Nunna-quality ' food, and even had the tick of approval from my Nunna! I tried the bruschetta, pastizzi, ravjul and Tirimisu...all of which I would order again! The service was also sensational, even with my dads wife having tolerance needs. A brilliant representation of Maltese hospitality! Do yourself a favour and give Fenek a go!
We recently visited this restaurant for the first time since it changed ownership before Christmas. The food was absolutely amazing. The menu is similar to the previous owner's but the quality is much better. The pizza was the best we've had in a while and the lamb was excellent. The new owner is clearly passionate about wine and introduced us to some fantastic new selections. The service was also top-notch. We are currently back for our second visit in just 5 days and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Having been to The Purple Olive many times previously I was sad to learn the restaurant space was taken over and has now become Fenek and was keen to try and see what the new proprietor had come up with. The menu presentation was nice and the service was as good as the last owners had left it, while the offerings are still of an Italian feel with quite a lot of new options to choose from along the Purple Olive's lineup. We ordered the Bruschetta to start, and while it was tasty as a bruschetta is, we found it swimming in a little too much Balsamic vinegar and olive oil so that the bread was soggy as a result. Moving on from the entree, we had several different dishes and were happy to say that they made up for the entree. I had the duck gnocchi, while my friends had the rabbit fettuccini and spaghetti Bolognese, all of which were rich and delectable to the palate. The shiraz we ordered was nice and well priced even though the year of the wine wasn't what was listed and a year younger. All in all it was a good start and we were attended to thoroughly and made to feel welcome. And while the bruschetta was a little disappointing, I'm pretty sure we'll be back for round two.
