Come here pretty regularly whenever I stop by Whitehead, most recently at Easter. Usually for the excellent mini frys, but the odd lunch or pizza too. On a busy day it can feel a bit crowded inside but there is also open air seating, great for summer days. With regard to the recent incident (which I didn't witness personally), true to say there is not much space inside so can understand why toddler tantrums can't be accommodated. Parents need to understand health and safety law is there for their children too so staff would have been obliged to act.
I would just like to comment on a review made yesterday 11/4/23. Myself and my wife visited coastal coffee for a lunch break after walk around the lighthouse, we were sat enjoying our coffee when a young lady and small child and her father) entered the premises, almost immediately the child started to scream at the top of his voice and running amok thru cafe, he then climbed on high eating ledge all the while the mother sat on her phone, It wasn't a normal tantrum. The child's behaviour was appalling, Heather the owner done the appropriate thing at the time and asked the young lady to leave, it was done in a polite manner and as a business owner myself I know it wasn't an easy decision to make but the welfare of the child, other customers and the staff needs to be taken into consideration, Our lunch was beautiful
I am not one to usually complain on social media, but I feel that I need to share my experience at Maud's Coastal Coffee in Whitehead. My family and I went in for breakfast as we normally do on Wednesdays. As we entered and settled at a table, my father went to get a high chair for my two and a half year old son, Jacob. When Jacob threw a tantrum and refused to sit in the high chair, the owner, Heather, asked us to leave, stating that Jacob was making too much noise. Despite my attempts to calm him down, Heather insisted that we leave. I am shocked and disappointed by the way we were treated and we left the premises feeling unwelcome.
Fantastic staff, very attentive to the whole family, totally family friendly. The cost of food is very reasonable considering the austere financial times we are all living in now. Gorgeous coffee, from latte’s to flat whites they do a great and varied selection. All the family very happy with the food and service they received. But I have to say the avocado, poached eggs, crispy bacon on sourdough breakfast was excellent! Perfect, highly recommend!
