Very tasty. Server knew exactly the ingredients of various dishes and substitutions that could be made. But there were dishes vegan from the start so a good selection.
Was quite skeptical after reading the reviews, but had little option while out of town… well, I am surprised, and believe that things have improved greatly since the previous reviews. There were options, and the food was good. Long time vegan who has stopped going to ‘vegan option’ places, but had to this weekend and was able to find and eat a decent meal. I even waited to post to see if I had any reactions (digestively) to the food, but I am good.
I went to Sol Kitchen for lunch yesterday with my husband and in-laws, as they read that Sol has a lot of vegan options. Well, I 'm not sure about everything on the menu, but the bean burrito that I ordered which claimed to have a vegan option was basically the regular bean burrito minus everything that is not vegan, so it turned out to be flatbread with a whole lot of beans in sauce and a small amount of avocado only. There was no vegan cheese or vegan sour cream offered, they basically just removed whatever is not vegan and still charged me the same amount $16.95 without adding anything extra to make the meal more satisfying. As a longtime vegan, I am sick and tired of restaurants claiming to have vegan options but they basically just take things away from the main dish and so the food is bland and unsatisfying while still charging the full amount. This is unfair advertising and if I had known this to be the case, I DEFINITELY would have ordered something else with more variety and flavour. My husband and in-laws enjoyed their meals thoroughly since they had variety in their meals they are not vegan but I felt that I had to warn vegans who might want to eat at this restaurant to ask specifically about each vegan version of each meal they will order so that there are no nasty surprises. Also, it was a very long wait for the meal and many people who arrived after us were served first. Needless to say I will not be returning here anytime soon.
So from what the website or Facebook page looks like this place has gluten free , vegan, and vegetarian options available. Well their hours are kind of inconvenient because they close at 4 everyday so it is a place that I thought I would never be able to check out but one day I just happen to be in Collingwood really early so I thought I’d pop in. It opens at 9 so I walked the Main Street for a bit to wait for it to open. I walked in at 9:15. The front was full of delicious looking goodies so I asked the lady what was vegan. She said she just sold out of her vegan baked goods... ok , strange it’s only been 15 mins... so then she asks me if I am vegan which I say yes and she asks me what I am looking for I said something for breakfast.. so then she says ok let me go check what I can find out.. she was looking for some where to send me which she looked up to see if press juice company was open.. I was kinda just in shock at this point. Walking in to these new places can kind of be overwhelming and intimidating to begin with so I just didn’t know what to say but I couldn’t believe that I was being sent somewhere else. I usually research everywhere I go first and look at the menu so I was sure I had seen something about vegan options but I guess I was wrong ?! Or maybe just not for breakfast ? I am still just confused.
