On a very snowy Sunday night there were only two others there but the room is not overlarge and is discreetly lit so we didn't feel we were rattling!...We all had the 6 course Zen menu with an added cheese course and loved it. A perfectly cooked scallop with a ham and endive and crispy snap accompaniment was delicious. Portions of cold langoustine in a gelled surround with the merest hint of a kick hinted at Japanese influence, as did the cod fillet which followed, tender and moist with a light chestnut honey sauce. We accompanied these with a fair Chablis. A tranche of slow cooked pork with its tasty jus had just the slightest hint of pink at its centre, and then the cheese course, slices of four local cheeses all in peak condition allowed us to finish some decently priced red bordeaux. A small delice after that refreshed the palate for a an eclair dessert with passion fruit that was very intense almost too much for the glass of Jurancon that we chose with it. The service during the meal, and throughout the stay from reception to departure, was extremely helpful and friendly. Nothing appeared too much trouble. The wine list is moderately long in Bordeaux and Burgundy with some very reasonably priced mature offerings, some almost bargains! The rest of France is represented but with nothing like the length. There is little from elsewhere until you get to the digestifs when a number of tawny ports are offered in addition to most of the usuals. All in all it was a most agreeable stopover, chosen because of its write ups and where we were likely to be during our journey, and it did not disappoint.
My wife and I stopped over in Colombey-les-deluxe-eglises on the basis of a strong recommendation. We had been looking forward to dining at Hostellerie Montagne for nearly a year. Much to our relief we were not disappointed. The welcome and service was both friendly and...attentive. Good restaurants can be overbearing but this was a pleasure to dine at. The oriental themed decor was superb, somehow managing to blend with the delightful French vistas through the windows. Tasty amuses bouches arrived on the terrace during pre-dinner drinks and we went to our table at our own pace. A choice of menus were available, all with a range of offerings to tantalise. We opted for the Zen menu though by the end of our six courses plus cheese we were struggling a little to see the Zen connection. Never mind, each dish was well presented and tasty with fresh ingredients and a good deal of imagination. The wine list offered a good choice to complement the food. We chose a couple of half bottles of Burgundy and both went really well with the meal, without breaking the bank. If I 'm honest the experience was excellent rather than stunning but I 'd have no hesitation in going back. It was clear that the kitchen team is dedicated to excellence so a great dining experience is guaranteed.
I Did not like the Japanese influence and decor in this lovely old stone building. As for the food, it all looked very beautiful, but the taste did not match the looks. Service was not of Michelon standard, very perfunctory, a left napkin just dumped...in the middle of the table, a mosquito in wine just dismissed.
As every year we came to the regio champagne-Ardennes to do the route du champagne. I came across Chef Natali 's restaurant in the Michelin Guide, being a big fan, I had to try it. I called last minute (the day before), and even though the...restaurant was packed, they did their utmost best to accommodate all 7 of us. When we got to the hostellerie (beautiful french country-side- style), we had a bottle of champagne in their garden first with complimentary amuse-bouches . We had a bottle of Drapier, one of my favorites! At an incredibly reasonable price for a michelin restaurant. We continued inside and the service even got better (if possible at this stage), the maitre made us a customized menu with fish or meat depending on each ones taste. The food was just delicious and soo reasonable priced! The wine too!!we had local red and white, both a real pleasure to drink. I strongly recommend going to restaurant Natali
Overpriced menu. Service disappointing. Food-quality quite deceiving! Very small portions. Drinks are overpriced and limited choice.
