Every dish was delicious, highlighting the freshness and quality of the seafood. The Grandmakase meal was not only visually appealing but also satisfying. The chef expertly paired each fish with unique spices and sauces that brought out their flavors. Although I don't drink, I enjoyed my meal with a hot cup of green tea. The dessert, particularly the Matcha option, was a standout for my friend who loves green tea. I had a special Valentine's Day course set, which I would rate 4 stars for its diversity, but I found myself wishing that the Uni-Chutoro could be served separately and that there were more grilled or fried options available. As someone from Tokyo, I appreciate a traditional take on Omakase. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would love to return in a different season, perhaps in autumn.
In a quick summary, Ikko offers excellent customer service and creative omakase dishes. Although I missed out on the foie gras and A5 wagyu, I still had a great experience. Reservations are highly recommended due to limited seating. The variety in their dishes is impressive, although the scallop course was a slight letdown. My favorite pieces were the Amberjack, Makrele, and trout. The service is top-notch, with waiters ensuring your glass is always full and dishes are promptly cleared. Parking is ample in the strip mall. Overall, Ikko provides a solid dining experience with a diverse menu and attentive customer service. I'll definitely be returning.
The Grandmakase experience is fantastic when you get to try various types of Japanese cuisine, not just sushi. The service is excellent as well.
I'll go when I'm in the Costa Mesa. Sushi is always on the point. Very recommended if you love sushi. The best thing about IKKO is that there are NO American Rolls. Try the Omakase option next time.
Got the omakase. The reason why I made it 4/5 its because I though their starter plate is a little too salty. However, their fish selections were very fresh and the rice were well made with the perfect amount of vinegar, soy sauce and wasabi. I like how they each plate were a selection of fishes with similar flavor profiles. They started off with light flavors and then ending it with more umami and fatty fishes like otoro. The chawanmushi is unique. It had little bits of uni and had a more umami flavor in it.
