The dessert was delicious and the service was great. The ambiance was unique. My only complaint is about our Open Table reservation. The Parlor was not open on the day/time we made the reservation! Big mistake on Open Table's side of things, but the staff was able to fit us in.
The chocolate Kailua cheesecake was phenomenal but the carrot cake was a little dry and had cake frosting rather than cream cheese frosting or even butter cream. The ambiance is exceptionally traditional and authentically historical so your grandmother will love it and your parents will be impressed but your edgy recent college graduate friends may think you’ve “changed a lot since graduating”.
We had a reservation confirmed for 9:30 because of a time concern) and arrived at 9:15 and waited until 9:30 for valet access, which required us to need to leave by 10:40. When we arrived they did not have our table ready and were ushered off to the bar to wait, and were not seated until 10:10. We had to really rush our dessert, like how fast can you eat your cake, which was not really fun. The valet service was impossible to drop the car and were forced to move to a side lot down the street and walk back to the location not horrible), but when you are expecting to drop at the door it put a damper on things. The one way in/out was not a great idea. We were forced to move off the main street by the local PD because we were waiting so long to drive in, they wanted us to move. Kind of a crummy way to celebrate 3 anniversaries and 1 birthday dessert event. There were 8 of us in total, would definately reconsider going here for a large group again. With so many choices to go to in Detroit now, may have to consider new places. They need to step their game with all this competition.
Waiter and dessert was a joke. Bananas foster boozy milkshake. Torch for creme brûlée was covered by crown royal bag? Our waiter didn’t know they name of the miniature desserts. What appeared to be a shortbread/ sugar cookie, was just a cookie with some type of filling according to our waiter. Waiter said he didn’t know the desserts because he was on vacation for 3 weeks. Was supposed to be a night to celebrate my wife’s birthday, instead it was a major disappointment and waste of money.
Our server was fantastic. eating was delicious and we loved to tour the house after dinner.
