After a tragic visit to Henny penny while visiting the hunter we spotted this pie shop on the way thru to Maitland. After deciding we still weren’t satisfied hungry wise we made an illegal u turn and drive back to get ourselves a pie. We ordered a sausage roll pie and drink and it came to $20. Good lord $7 for a drink. The pie was priced around $8 and 5 or so for the snag roll which I didn’t personally eat however I asked my mate for his input. Service 7/10 Nothing to complain about. We were in and out. The person serving seemed nice. I got a weird vibe when I was asking prices. This could have been me however as I was a bit flustered with the pricing. The prices on the food seemed on par with a premium pie however the food rating will give more of an idea. Atmosphere 9/10. Good location would be an ideal place to stop if there was an improvement on the food. Wooden bench’s giving the Aussie pie shop vibe was a nice touch. Food 2/10 Here’s the issue. Premium priced pies call for a premium pie. My pie was on par with a vilis or your classic Asian bakery pie with a little extra butter in the pastry. It could be MUCH better. The filling was atrocious the gravy was thick and foul tasting while the cheese and bacon were almost non existent. The steak used was about as good as a Woolies steak in summary it was a below average pie. The sausage roll was similar with cheap filling and over buttered pastry. This isn’t bad when there’s more than one flavour but the bland filling just didn’t cut it. Overall Was a pretty disappointing experience from a pie shop I’d consider below average. Sure it’s better than a 7/11 pie. But if I’m chasing a pie I want something that’s going to wow me. Not some glorified villis.
