Went here today with my mum, Tony made us feel very welcome the lentil and tomato soups are delicious, he gave us plenty bread was very friendly gave me a free pistachio cannoli which was so tasty. The coffees looked lovely we will definitely will be returning here.
Over a tenner for a coffee and a sandwich and rude owner to boot. You can get the same (minus the rudeness) for half the price literally paces away at Potterrow, Rudi's, Greggs you can even get a full meal at Vodka Rev's (no one's idea of fine dining, but neither is this place, unless you like back pain from a too small cheap wooden chair) for £2.99 Monday to Friday, and that's just round the corner. Avoid this place and help stop the normalisation of poor customer service and insane prices which is creeping up all around the formerly pleasant Old Town of Edinburgh.
The soup here is unmissable. we’ve been here three times now and it is somehow better every time! The lentil soup is classic and by far my favourite but other flavours are so worth a try as well. To add to the wonderful experience, the staff are so welcoming. They offer a great student discount on soup making it a great place to work and enjoy lunch!
I was with a couple of friends just saying goodbye to one and they both has coffees but as a student I couldn't afford the high prices of their coffees so just sat with them for 20 minutes and was rudely told that not buying something wasn't the policy even though it doesn't say this anywhere. For a cafe being so close to a uni campus, I think it is important they make their prices more student friendly or at least offer student discount
Salut is a family run coffee shop that services students and faculty from the nearby University. Margret and Tony are wonderful people and they make excellent coffee! Their lunches are also exceptional, the soups being my favorite. You can't go wrong at Salut. I will be visiting every time I find myself in town.
