Ate here on a Wednesday night, pretty relax/casual dinning. We were impressed with the barrel of roasted peanuts by the door that encouraged customers to take a complimentary bucket of peanuts whilst you make your way to your seat. We ordered “Wild West Wind Onion rings” had good batter, but just like the average onion rings. The “Saucy biddy chicken wings” with coriander, ginger and lime sauce . The wings came out with the puddle of the sauce, not like the usual ‘chucked in a container and shaken with the sauce look’ and The batter was a bit on the darker side and would suggest to choose a different sauce to go with it. We also had the “Amigo dog” the chilli con carne on it was definitely a bit more spicer than we thought it would have been, even after taking the jalapeños off.. pretty crunchy bun, and hefty melted cheese on top. And lastly, we ordered the “Salt and Pepper Calamari Caesar salad with anchovies” the dish we liked the most out of what we ordered. Served with a whole boiled egg sliced in half, the Caesar dressing had a little sweet note that tied the whole dish together and helps relive the saltiness of the other dishes we ordered... The ambience was pretty chill, the staff was super friendly and very efficient. We enjoyed your service, COOSH! Thanks for having us, Lone Star!
Came here for a quick lunch bite. For the price paid, the portion size for my ribs were tiny. My friend thought her Mexican bowl meal was quite average. Service was prompt and friendly and I didn't have to wait very long for the food to be served guess there were only a total of 5 other people in the restaurant. Plenty of seating and a large variety on offer from the menu. They have a help yourself peanut barrel where I noticed others were eating and dropping the shell of the peanuts on the floor or all over the table.
I 'm a big eater so take my review in that context. I really like the place. The food is delicious They use good quality ingredients and unlike other restaurants (where I feel a bit yuck after a large feed , I can enjoy a large meal without feeling upset at the end. In terms of prices, they seem to be broadly reasonable but with some really good specials (bottomless burgers anyone? that are so good, they are surely temporary. As for the service/staff....well, I 'm biased I go often enough that most of the staff know me by now and will take care of me. That said, they 've been pretty courteous since the start. I also appreciate they are generous in terms of things like not charging for sauce which creates bill-shock and a breaking of trust at some other restaurants. As for some of the criticisms on slow service, these are actually sometimes valid. The staff are very attentive but given they only have a few on at any time, it just means they are occasionally spread too thin across many tables. Overall, this is now (according to the sign out the front 'under new management ' , one of my favourite places to eat in Canberra. I 'm curious to see how much longer this place remains quiet before word gets out and the really generous specials dry up. Maybe I should change my mind and give 1 star (kidding
A lot of people seem to complain about the service. Yet my own personal experience was far from negative. Food arrived quickly and smelled heavenly, if you are a big fan of bbq flavours, this is the place to go. I want to thank our initial waiter who has taken a stronger approach to customers than the prior owners. Checking every few minutes if myself or other tables were ready to order, but giving us enough time for it to not be a burden. The new owners are quick and learning how to improve at every corner.
