I'm really looking forward to getting back to Grand Fort Philippe in the summer of 2021, if at all possible. L'Univers simple, immaculately clean, welcoming, and very French. It's wonderful to wake up to the view over the canal and beaches... and to know a super breakfast is ready when you are. Parking is easy. Everything in the area is easy to reach and there a lots of places to visit. And next door is the pub Le Dundee.... run by the unique Madame Dutas. I bet my Dundee FC scarf is still hanging abobe the bar!
This small riverside restaurant offers a pleasant menu and a section on a chalkboard (a fish dish and a meat dish). There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and you may be waited on by 'madam ' or the 'patron '. There is seating inside for about 24 and further tables outside on an area sheltered by wind breaks, there are great views across the road and river to the beach and the sea. I started with delicious fish soup served with all the bits and followed it with filet de sebaste from the chalk board, it was perfectly cooked and served with rice (I could have had potatoes or chips) and some lettuce. I finished with cheese and a glass of the house red. During the meal I had enjoyed the house rose. There is a full stocked bar with both beer and spirits. The restaurant is beautifully clean.
Report quality impeccable price single but very clean and functional breakfast at the top, coffee at will, pastries, bread, jam. cheese, yogurts and orange juice very welcoming I strongly recommend this hotel
We stumbled across this place when we camped around the corner and were delighted to find they would still serve us dinner as we were very late arriving owing to a delayed ferry from the UK. The food was lovely good wholesome and tasty French food and the owners and staff are delightful. Friendly and welcoming and they encouraged my very shaky French. We asked if they did breakfast for non residents and went back in the morning for a lovely French breakfast croissants, baguettes, cheese, lovely coffee. It was all so good we returned here for dinner and breakfast after our 2 week campervan trip to Germany's North Sea coast. A great base if you have disembarked from or are embarking at Calais or Dunkerque and don't want to travel on straight away. The area is also very nice and very interesting and the restaurant has lovely views across a waterway to a huge beach.
