We decided to try the A La Carte menu, which we found to be reasonably priced. The blue cheese souffle was absolutely delicious. I have a special rating system for Sticky Toffee Pudding (STP) based on the amount of sauce I receive, and this restaurant came close to a perfect score. However, I have to deduct a point for the lack of greeting upon our arrival. We found ourselves waiting around at reception for about 5 minutes, despite it not being busy. Fortunately, the service improved after that and we had a very enjoyable experience.
After enjoying a fantastic meal at this restaurant in the past, we decided to return expecting another delicious meal. Unfortunately, this time the experience fell short. The restaurant was nearly empty aside from one other couple, and the staff remained as friendly as before. I ordered the burger and my wife had the duck, but we both left feeling disappointed by how bland our food was. My burger was particularly tasteless. Despite this, we won't let this one off night deter us from returning in the future.
I had a fantastic dining experience at 38. The lamb dish was absolutely delicious and still lingers in my memory. The staff was attentive and friendly. I am looking forward to returning to try more of their delicious menu offerings.

What has happened to the Tower? Living very nearby, this has been our favourite eatery for years. A friend and I dropped in for a drink and light lunch last Saturday. All day menu is now very basic. We both chose a prawn and salmon light bite. What arrived was a small table spoon size of pate with a teaspoon of savoury jam on the side. Nothing to spread it on or even a few leaves. The taste was bitter, unpleasant and not of the menu stated ingredients. The texture was like dry goats cheese. We both left it as it tasted barely edible. Thankfully, we had ordered fries on the side. We asked our young waitress to express our reviews to the chef, but didn't hear anything back. On leaving, we were asked in the corridor if everything was o.k and once again politely expressed our feelings to the more senior member of staff who offered no more than her apologies. I'm really hoping it's a one off, if not it will be time to find a new local
