Really good. we stopped after visiting the church next door. the inner feels really small, but they also have a quite large beer garden out there.
I came here two years ago and thought it would be a great choice to take the shiny, so I pre-booked that it would be packed for christmas. the bar is tiny.
A friend and I visited for lunch. It's years since I last visited, but in the essentials, it has not changed. Comfortable and homely, not the subject of tasteless modernisation The menu is quite short but there are some good choices on there and most people will find something to suit. The steak and kidney pudding was very good and the beer was in great condition.A special word for our server, Lacey, who did a great job and was very professional.I was surprised by how quiet the place was, but this may be a sign of social changes and perhaps more people working from home. It certainly deserves more customers. The toilets are to be found down many steps and are not accessible. They are also in poor condition, but happily, modernisation is in hand.
On a quiet Sunday night it was not necessary to book a table so it was unfortunate we had ask for extra drink service a couple of times. The menu was interesting and obviously for the first time in any restaurant there has to be an element of .luck as to whether the choice was good. I chose the lamb chop and for a premium price it was unfortunately rather underwhelming. Other in our party made different choices and were very satisfied with their meal. Would I go there again, yes but only to try different menu options
