Ponte De Pedra - Marco De Canaveses

My party of six had dinner here while staying in Souselo. It is only a 20 min drive from Souselo and you do get a good view of the bridge. The menu had meat and fish options. We decided to go for the fixed 3-course menu, which at euro @24 seemed good value for money. However, all of us were unprepared for the large portions--there were 8 different starters--ranging from pig's ears to pot roast. This was followed by mains, some chose veal, some chose beef on a skewer. One tip, if you like your beef rare, it's probably best to ask for the entire portion to be carved up in front of you--otherwise the beef goes back on the fire. Then just when we thought we were sated came the 10 different deserts. We thought we would need to choose some out of ten, not to try all 10 different deserts! You can always ask for a small portion but the staff had a beguiling way of persuading diners to try their desert dish. The house wine was very good and you can buy half bottles. Just a quick note about portions--1/2 portion actually means a portion for 1 person. 1-portion means for two people. The staff were very friendly, and there is loads of seating--dining tables were spread over 3 levels. The meal ended with an aperitif, which was complementary and served in some small clay shots. Having read the reviews, we did ask for some take-away boxes for the savoury left overs, as the portions were generous. This was a memorable meal.
