Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónThis was a good find for my family. It has been a long while since I have had the pleasure of eating a quality Asian meal in the Cairns area. We stopped in and had entrees and mains for our meal. My son the fuss pot enjoyed the dim sims and we really enjoy our serve of spring rolls. For the mains we had the Mareeba crispy skin pork belly and I had the special hor fun. I enjoyed my meal. The seafood and sauce were really tasty. The noodles were cooked very well and I am usually picky about how my rice noodles are cooked for this dish but what I had was spot on for my expectations for a great hor fun. My wife enjoyed her pork belly and it was nice and crispy. The restaurant is small enough to miss it but the food will definitely have you coming back for more. We are so glad to have found a great new place to dine in Cairns.
Had lunch here, very clean premises nice food with a good selection of ads in items.pork broth was to die for
Fancying some South East Asian food, we ducked into Mr. Soy Boy on Wednesday 26th July 2017 and picked up a couple of takeaways. The owner and chef, Ferdi, was most welcoming and very chatty. Our order consisted of Indonesian Beef Rendang and Malaysian Chicken Nonya Curry, both with a serving of rice.Having lived in South East Asia for many years of our lives, my wife and I are all too familiar with beef rendang and Nonya Chicken curry. The versions served by My Soy Boy are variations of the dishes devised by chef Ferdi – not quite what we expected. The rendang was more like a beef curry and the beef pieces were tough to chew on. The curry was stingingly hot. The actual Indonesian rendang that we are used to is usually a dry curry where the seasoned meat is slow-cooked and tender and has grated roasted coconut garnishing. The Malaysian Chicken Nonya curry was palatable. We had asked for the dish to be prepared medium spicy. Alas, it turned out almost as hot as the rendang. The flavour of the curry was quite distinctive from the rendang. Once again, Mr Soy Boy’s version is untypical of the actual Nonya curries we are used to.On the whole, the curries were tasty enough though a far cry from the actual Indonesian and Nonya curries.
They make a nice fried rice, but apart from that I don't think I will be back. Also tried the Family Platter and found this served three adults perfectly, however the four roast meats were bland and uninspiring. The sauces, vegetables and steamed rice were more enjoyable. I honestly don't have anything bad to say about the service or price, as the staff are very considerate and welcoming, and the prices seem somewhat reasonable considering the quality local ingredients. Unfortunately I just don't find the food special enough to return for. The following is some advice directed to whoever is responding to your customer's online reviews. There isn't anything that could have been done to make my meal more enjoyable and honestly judging by the responses to reviews, your establishment comes across as somewhat accusatory to anyone who doesn't find your food amazing. Considering this, the last thing a person might want to do is confront staff after a lackluster meal. Customers are not obligated to tell you that the experience was unsatisfactory, and if that results in negative feedback, don't see it as a complaint but instead use it to improve future transactions.
Thought I would order some takeaway as had heard good reports. Was very disappointed with the "trio of roast meats" which promised crispy pork belly, roast duck and chicken. The serving pieces of the pork and duck were meagre. The duck meat was non existent. Our container contained 5 pieces of duck bones with only tiny shreds of dry over cooked meat. The pork serving was just as pitiful. The chicken, dry. All this for $26.
