After a less than enjoyable experience at another pizzeria in Sarno, we decided to visit La Reginella for the last night of our holiday. It could not have been better. It’s very basic (experience says that’s often a good thing in Italy . Tables are packed in and there are no frills other than the very formal looking suits worn by the waiters. But the service was spot on; friendly without being assuming, and perfectly timed at every stage, including allowing us extra time at the beginning so that I could translate the (extensive menu for my non Italian speaking family. When I say extensive, that’s in terms of toppings this is a pizzeria that does pizza, nothing else. But what pizza; perfect dough, just the right amount of topping and a good selection of ‘white’ pizzas (without tomatoes which you almost never find in the UK. Pizzas start at around €3.50 at time of writing, most are €6 €7. There are a few starters if you think you can manage them in addition to the pizza : They serve alcohol as well. There was a big queue outside when we left around 9.30 on a Tuesday night so it pays to be British and eat earlier. Or you can get takeaway. One final note. After we left, my daughter couldn’t find her phone and assumed she’d left it on the table. The waiting staff could not have been more helpful, translating to talk to the new occupants on the table and helping us look. It turns out the phone wasn’t lost but even then they were really lovely. We would be there regularly if we didn’t live in England.
