Gion Japanese - Auckland Central

Here’s what I liked about it: 1. The dining room has a beautiful, intimate atmosphere that feels much more upscale compared to your typical izakayas. 2. The portion sizes were generous, and everything was well-prepared with high-quality ingredients. However, all the dishes arrived at once, and we would have preferred a more staggered service so we could enjoy each plate without them getting cold. 3. The highlight of the meal was the beef tataki. It had excellent flavor and was served sashimi-style, which is a must-try if you enjoy this dish! 4. I paired the meal with a Sapporo beer and finished with matcha ice cream and a fried banana topped with vanilla ice cream. I would skip the banana dessert next time, as the banana wasn't ripe, and the tempura coating was not as crispy as I would have expected. Overall, it’s a lovely place for an intimate and high-quality Japanese meal in Parnell. I will definitely return to explore their extensive menu.

We visited this restaurant for a relaxed date night and absolutely loved the ambiance. We chose some very familiar dishes, not even sticking purely to Japanese cuisine, but everything tasted good. However, it wasn't really anything special compared to the usual katsu, karaage, tofu, and takoyaki that can be found at cheaper places. I assume we're also paying for the impressive presentation and the overall experience in this location.

Reat food, great service and the Sake was delicious. A very refreshing drink. Thank you for suggesting it to us.

They serve delicate Japanese food, always gives u surprises, nice atmosphere for families and the kids. Will go again next time!
