Le Maharajah - Besançon

Amazing place with cosy indoor Asian style. Food was amazing and service was friendly. I would definitely recommend to visot and eat curry or biryani if you are in town. Best Best indian food in Besançon.

I had previously visited the Maharaja over 5 years prior, when it was the only Indian restaurant in Besancon, I am pleased to see that it is still there and seemed to be fairly busy, with both dine in and take away/delivery. Quirky decor, but it works creating a nice atmosphere. Menu was online accessed via QR code. Menu was pretty good, lots to choose from, most of the pretty standard Indian dishes you would recognise. The food was tasty and quite authentic. An enjoyable visit.

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is cosy. Vegetarian options are plentiful which is rare in France and according to my friends and family the meat dishes are delicious too. They have spicy food but they also have mild food for those less tolerant and made plain rice and chicken for my friend's daughter. Their homemade naan is wonderful and is served with three sauces; sweet, mild, and spicy. Desserts are unique and flavorful.

First time eating here was in 2008 when I was a student. An Indian friend proposed me to eat with him, so I did and we went there with other friends. I always order chicken/lamb for whatever cooking they have because I'm not much of a fish/seafood lover. But I have never been dissapointed. Tried to ask for spicier dish but never work. I think the chef did put more spice (I'm Indonesian I have to eat chili separately as sauce or have chili included in my meal), but I don't think it's that much spicy as I would've wanted. Never tried again, the menu is delicious enough for me to enjoy without chili. Other thing I love is their Nan. My husband always order Cheese Nan, I love it too or even the Natural Nan. All the Nans are delicious. I also love their Paratha, especially the Stuffed Paratha. The drinks they served for apetizer are good. We ordered differently from time to time. Other thing to try is their Lassi. Whatever is good. Definitely going there again and again!

Nourriture de qualité, bien relevée et repas copieux. Nous avons apprécié les petites attentions tout au long du service ! Tout était excellent, du cocktail au dessert ! Nous reviendrons, d'autant plus que le cadre et que le personnel sont chaleureux.
