In my first night in calvi I explored the citadelle in which my apartment was located, and I found this picturesque restaurant around the corner. It has a stunning view of the dark turquoise waters with mountains in the background. the owner was very friendly and happy for me spoke English, as my French is pretty bad. the restaurant filled quite quickly as I can now understand because eating is amazing. I started with the charcuterie and followed with carbonara pasta. I was so full that I didn't dessert, but I'm sure it was just as delicious. also the other dinner guests were very friendly to chat with. I recommend la voute.
Excellent quality local food. By far the best we’eaten and not nearly the most expensive. My favourite was the magnet de canard. And the tiramisu with chestnut for desert.
While walking around the older part of Calvi we heard the sweetest guitar music and song drifting out of a rustic doorway. We entered to find a very warm welcome from a young couple who not only served us to excellent food and wine but...entertained us with live music. Great food and great atmosphere. We were made most welcome. Highly recommended.
La voute, la voute, what can I say about la voute. first, that its facility high in Calvi’s citadel is near perfect with beautiful views of the cathedrale, which currently a huge Renaissance Frisco on one of its walls (see picture). Second,...that his website says it is open from 10 to 1 o'clock 7 days per week, which is simply not true, it was definitiw closed on our first two trips to the citadel. third, the chef comes around approx. 730 clock and does not begin to cook until much later. fourthly, he is a charming little fifth, there are some truth in the Tripadvisor entry, which said what la voute wants is “a cool hang for serious young men with acoustic gitarren and occasionally some wein and be serving. what they don’t want is to be formal with customers who want to (as serve) and can concentrate on eating too.” Sixth, they should take a fleece to fall after 9 o’clock when the temperature begins in september, while in the middle of their second bottle wein and still wait for the planche charcuterie fromage arrive. seventh, I love it! swmbo wasn't quite so impressed that it might be a good thing that they don't know any leonard cohen songs.
