I really wanted it to be better and believed that it would be great if I decided where to go for a nice family dinner, but it was just not great. for the price it was easy. the filet with surf and rasen was good and very well cooked. the fish my wife had was also decent, but maybe a bit over spiced, or strangely spiced, maybe. the appetizer of the honey-sriracha garnelen was much over boiled, which was a total bummer, because the sauce they were really great, but could not over the garnels that were almost boiled until completely dried out. had an old fashion that was good with makers as basic, but the price was quite steep for this whisky. the children were cheated that pommes were no option. also the noodles with cheese (mac and cheese) were good. nothing outstanding, and the atmosphere was something like a conference room in a small office space. it was all in order. so that everything is connected to mangos and their setup, I would simply set up shop at the poolbar and eat there for a better atmosphere and stronger drinks. really wanted to like this place, but just not. a good change in an average meal without atmosphere. stuff costs more on the island that I totally get and support. but it must be something special to the cost of this place, and that was simply not.
On our first night at North Captiva Island our group dined at the Boathouse restaurant. We were one of two couples dining here because early May is considered to be part of the off season. Our server and mixologist Stephaine welcomed us in with a smile. Stephanie seated us and while attending to another couple who was finishing their meal. Stepahine mixed several off the menu drinks for us, which were surburb. Our meals were outstanding. The seafood and steaks were well prepared and the manner in which these items were plated increased anticipation of tasting these meals. After we finished our meal, chef Devon emerged from the kitchen to elicit our thoughts about dinner. His question quickly developed into an animated and lively conversation about each and naturally led us to partake of items from the Boathouse's dessert menu. The cheesecake was, yum That is a direct quote from several people in our party. We would highly recommend this restaurant during your visit to North Captiva. Make sure you ask for Stephanie and Devon while you're there.
I was skeptical after reading some reviews as we were celebrating my moms 80th. But it was amazing. Everybody loved their meals and he made us an appetizer with the shark we caught that day that even my fish hating sister liked. Talked to the chef. He is new as of a few months ago. Definitely give it a try.
We had a delicious meal last night. The new chef has ramped up the taste and quality. We had some absolutely perfect ribeye steak with Chef Samuel's butter, a lemon Grouper and a shrimp with a delightful vodka sauce. The restaurant keeps it's menu small enough to do well but comprehensive enough to satisfy most tastes and needs. The grownups were even stealing bites from the Kid's plate!
We were 2 couples celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. When the chef heard this, he had a special dessert sent out to us. Service was great, food excellent.
