Brilliant pub with dining , probably the best in Dumfries Galloway. The staff are great, Hi to Wayne behind the bar, always a good choice of wines, beers and real ales. The food is outstanding, we have the highland steak everytime. We only stay in Dumfries every 3 yrs or so, but always get in here at least once. Price per person: £40–50 Food: 5

We recently popped in for a drink here but were completely ignored in spite of there being 2 bar staff and only one person being served. We’re a mixed race couple and stood right in front of the barmaid for several minutes while she spoke to a friend of hers, avoiding eye contact with us. The barman also did not even acknowledge us. When another person then came up to the bar she served them immediately. Clearly we were not welcome and left, heading to the Preston park tavern, with a much better welcome and atmosphere. Avoid the Cleveland Arms, there are so many better pubs in Brighton.
