The portions of food at this restaurant are generous and reasonably priced. They also offer made-to-order sandwiches for takeout, and they even include a biscuit as a nice bonus.
Wasn't sure what supplies this shop would have intended to buy bread and milk but it is a cafe. Owner happy to make us up sandwiches to order, with a flapjack and fruit scone. She also let us have some of her milk (we were camping in the nearby site and had run out). The cafe was busy at 1030 and all day breakfasts were a popular choice. Excellent service and helped us out with emergency milk rations. Think the cafe is open 1000 1600 and closed Thursdays.
When you visit Dufton, do make time for refreshments at the Postbox Pantry (seating outdoors as well as indoors to enjoy the view) The small friendly cafe 's nestled by the village green at the base of the Pennine Hills and near to/on at least three national cycle routes not far from Appleby. It 's also on the Pennine Way. Dufton means the farmstead where the doves were kept . It is mentioned in documents as far back as 1176 and 1291. Dufton has an artists weekend in July followed by the Fellside Agricultural Show Sheepdog trials in August. The Eden Valley has many interesting walks and villages, including Morland famed for its annual choristers camp which meets during the first week of August (7 miles from Dufton, half way to Penrith)
We popped in after a walk (two adults and two teens) great find, friendly service, nice scones with proper clotted cream, and good cakes with a delicious pot of tea. Clean and well kept. Latte coffees better than one normally finds in little local tea shops. Worth a visit if passing by.
What an amazing find. Will definitely be back . Dog friendly was such a bonus . The cream scone was served with delicious cream and jam
