A great local place with tons of history! Felt very welcomed by Hannah and the rest of the staff. And to top it off the food was excellent. Would come back to Killington just for the Back Behind!
Stay far far away, the owner is not accommodating at all. Food is mediocre. We were placed at the worst table with a heater blasting unsafely next to us. Children running unattended.
First timer here, cozy decor with weird services. All meats with the same sauce, nothing is special. We ordered corn chowder (salty), bbq combo, dried pulled pork chewy beef brisket (menu price $18.95 but we got charged $20.95). We didn't bother to argue for price differences between their menu and the bill since we don't plan to come back. PS. No refills for tea. And while we just started to eat our meals, the waitress asked if we would like to order any desserts...kinda odd for me since we just had two bites of foods and we were there at 5pm.
I consider it part of my job as a Killington Ski Instructor to be able to provide our guests with recommendations regarding area restaurants. That requires actually eating at the restaurant, and so it was that my friend and I visited not for the first time the Back Behind. Their combination BBQ platter is way more than enough for two, and just happens to be damned good BBQ as well. But seafood? Well, the sign out front touted it, so we both put it to the test. We each had the large fried haddock (cod is also available dinner. Well it was slap my mamma and tell me I 'm on Cape Cod good! And, like everything seems to be here, very, very generously proportioned. As in three (3 meals worth (Billy may have only gotten 2 generous meals. The fish was not in the least greasy and it just flaked with a fork. The rather small side of baked beans made me want to order a side dish of them. They were that good but, hey, a person has to know her limitations. The only thing meh was the coleslaw. Not bad, not overly dressed . Just not at the standard of the fish and the beans, A nacho appetizer went past us on the way to a nearby table. It will DEFINITELY be on my list for my next visit. I 'll have to bring more than just Billy, though! H U G E! The Back Behind is always a good place to go, but times when the Killington access road and its restaurants get ridiculously packed it is IMO the only place to go. We went at lunch time on the Saturday of World Cup Weekend after the GS Race got cancelled due to visibility issues. Driving down the access road place after place was just packed with lines out the door, but we just walked into the Back Behind and were seated immediately. It 's only about 3 miles east of the access road on route 4, right where route 100 goes south off of route 4, but unless you know well, you just don 't know. Now ... you know.
