Not much (if anything) has changed since I used to dine here during the 1970’s. The menu is the same and the preparations are correct and classic. The Carabineiros are succulent and worth the expense, as are the tiger shrimp. My old favorite, sea bass with clams was perfect and the boil potatoes they are served with continues to elevate this simple spud. The parrilhada de mariscos remains a special highlight. Service is perfect and the room retains its classic, traditional decor.
It’s a nice establishment with a quiet pleasant atmosphere and of course excellent service. The main problem is the food is painfully average. In Lisbon there are plenty of other places that have way better tasting food. I didn’t really understand the hype after our experience. Some people are complaining about the prices on here. On this point I’ll only say, yes you can have a better tasting meal elsewhere for cheaper, but overall the food is really not that overpriced. Most of the entrees are in the 30 € range which honestly would be on the lower end in the US for a similar establishment. Which perhaps they are targeting more of a US demographic (as there was not one Portuguese native dining in the entire restaurant). I think if you have limited time in Lisbon, perhaps seek out better dining options, the food was just too average.
