Had high hopes on Gibson, based on what I heard and read. The food was good, the lambry brauted in peanut butter with white balm was great and the chef shared his story that made it all the more pleasant. But the service was terrible. To get drinks from the bar, we had to hunt the bartender when she was the only server on Saturday night. Our party wasn't in a hurry, but the table next to us was extremely irritated as they had tickets for a show. It is always a bad sign if you need to ask after check how your participants are delivered. Would there really be another attempt, but at $500 for a party of 4 it is doubtful. I sincerely hope they can bring it together and work it. I understand the challenges that hospitality is facing now. But if you want to do it, you have to find out.
This restaurant is a real hidden gem. Nevertheless, it hides in sight only a short block from Powell Street cable car Terinus and Powell Street BART and MUNI Station. The cook is a local talent with roots back to the Culinary Arts program at City College of San Francisco. But his vision and artistic show, but a mere look at his future potential. Yes, boss Johnathan is one who looks in the future. Look for fascinating treatments of plastered elements in both nets and cocktails. All inmates. And this day of Chinese bread services, their splendour with home made bread and spreads that you want to weep. And excellent service along with one of the most beautiful dining rooms in all San Francisco, a real homage to the best of Art Deco design. You enjoy every minute of food in Gibson.
Go. Just go. Flavor profiles I’ve never experienced before from a chef who clearly loves his craft. Attentive, generous, service where you are truly made to feel like a welcome guest. Fine cocktails and warm hospitality from the bar tender. Seated with a view of the very open, shiny clean kitchen, watching the chef do his thing…Priceless! Go! Just go!
This was a real hidden gem- everything was wonderful- and couldn’t have picked a better pre-theater dinner!
