We were pleased with the exceptionally friendly service. The cod was incredibly fresh and delicious. The chowder was also tasty and the cheesecake made for a great dessert option.
I must say, for a rural Newfoundland café, I was very pleased with my experience. The decor was cozy and well-crafted. We visited for dinner and were served by a lovely lady who exemplified the hospitality of the area. She was very friendly and attentive. The chowder, pan roasted cod, and scallops were all delicious and everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. The only downside was that the rhubarb crumb dessert was just okay, nothing special. Overall, I would not hesitate to return to this café.
The restaurant was very welcoming and served a great lunch. It is located near the ferry with plenty of parking and very clean washrooms. The attentive employees catered to our group's needs. We definitely plan on returning this summer!
After reading the one negative travel adv review on this place I was hesitant. But nothing has... It is directly at the ferry terminal for st pierre and we already had a ho hum chowder lunch here before the ferry. And didn't... realize it was the same place on the return. I made a reservation because the pictures were out of date. But this is just a cafeteria style lunch. This is the return review. After ordering the scallops for $18, not only was the dish small, the sauce was overly sweet. Said to try the waiter/Koch, but he refused. They suggested to take them back what was good with us. When it was time to pay, the owner insisted that we should pay for this court, threaten the police to lock the door so that we could not go and take a photo of our driver's license. Ludicrous is too polite. The food was tasteless anyway, except for the excessive sugar in the scallop bacon cream sauce.
We were booked into Fortune Harbourview B B for the nights of Aug.4th 5th/2015. We had a tour booked in St Pierre the following morning, so that is what brought us to Fortune. We were warmly greeted by the owner of the B B and...then we were shown to the basement unit where we would be staying for the next two nights. It was a very comfortable two bedroom unit with a living room and full kitchen. The lady who greeted us (Brian Roses ' wife I believe, I am sorry that I forget your name..... Anyway, she was very welcoming and showed us the unit that we would be spending our next two nights. She strongly recommended that we go over to the ferry office to purchase our tickets. We did so, which took a little while, but while we were waiting, we noticed a restaurant in the same building. With ferry tickets in hand, we went back to our unit to freshen up and get a few things out of our suitcases. We headed back to the Stage Head Restaurant for supper, and I was the first one to enter. I turned to my brother and sister and said I guess we won 't be eating here tonight because they closed at 7pm. It was now about 7:15pm. A lady came out of the restaurant and said What are you talking about? We don 't turn anybody away for supper. Come on in.... We were seated and a beautiful young waitress served us and we thanked her so much. She took it in her stride and just said That 's okay, we 're going to be here for at least and hour cleaning up, so it 's no big deal to make something for you guys to eat . I do not remember what my brother and sister ordered, but I had the pan fried cod which was excellent! Brian Rose, you should be very proud of your establishment, I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat!!! This is clearly Newfoundland hospitality at its finest!!!!! Theresa from Toronto
