My husband and I tried Hemingways for dinner by chance and we liked it so much we decided to try it again for breakfast the following weekend. This was our first try at a German breakfast and we were both impressed. We ordered the breakfast...for two and it came with a breadbasket with two each of croissants, brotchen and seeded rolls; scrambled eggs with ham and mushrooms and a huge tray with two fruit cups of fresh (not canned) fruit, yogurt and an over the top selection of cheeses, meats and more cut up fruit as decoration. Also we each got a hot and cold beverage and butter, marmalade and Nutella for the rolls. We were both stuffed and couldn't finish it. It was definitely worth the price and we will definitely go back again. Also, we can't speak much German, but between Google Translate and some sign language, we were able to communicate perfectly with the wait staff.
Having lived in Weiden for several years I have visited Hemingways many times and was always satisfied actually rated it one of the best in the past) ....until recently. They recently remodeled and did a good job with it , but they also jacked...up their prices and changed their menu. Now it's basically an overpriced restaurant with marginal food and there isn't a single food item you can't do as well or better in another restaurant in the Weiden area. The service....well ....this is the reason they will not see another Euro from me. When we arrived menus where on the table as always. This included the breakfast menu below. When I tried to order off of it , I was told I could not. I asked why the menu was on the table? No answer, but I was told I should read the last page and then I would know that the kitchen was closed. Yep......not another Euro will spent there.
My waitress was friendly. She didn't speak English and I don't speak German (I'm sorry that I don't) but she was still very professional and friendly; I'm thankful for that! The food was good excellently priced for what I ordered. Atmosphere was simple but...not irrelevant. There's a few turn-offs, but more of a management thing than the staff. If I was closer in walking distance I'd return, but won't go out of my way to go. If you can walk to it, I recommend eating here.
The restaurant is modern and is attached to a bowling alley and casino machines. It has a small playroom for little ones. I ordered the Bulle burger which was huge! I ate half and was full. I usually run into places that don't know how...to cook bacon but the bacon on the burger was nice and crispy. Prices were pretty decent and the food came out quick. Waitresses were very nice and even came back to check on how our meal was. The pizza my wife ordered was good but nothing special. Tasted similar to most pizza I have had in Germany. The restaurant is open all day on the weekend which is nice. Oh yeah there are pool tables as well. Good place to eat and chill out.
