The beef burger, although reasonably presented tasted awful, either going off or gone off or it wasn’t beef of any sort. The Ploughmans was a joke who serves a Ploughmans with, amongst other misfits, French Brie and two slices of white bread ?…The Whitebait starter were straight out the freezer and breaded like a Birds Eye Fish Finger. The staff looked gobsmacked when we walked in, almost like, friggin hell, we’ve got customers. We will not be returning.
The starters mainly consisted of fish or cheese. Unfortunately, the main course was not exceptional, and the dessert was just okay. Overall, the food was average. We took two family members with us and were a bit embarrassed by the meals we received. Despite the positive reviews and welcoming atmosphere, the food was a disappointment, costing us £150. The restaurant is dog friendly, which was initially great until several dogs started barking at once, which was alarming. We had chosen to dine at the Castle instead of the Red House due to its proximity, but now wish we had made the effort to go further for a better experience.
Friendly service, pleasant ambiente, very decent pub dug ... standard menu, but with some flair very good place for a pub lunch.
Poor girl waiting on everyone, way too much for one person chips probably from Lidl and over cooked, meat dry, pitra bread probably from lidles taaskikk easy to make
Been visiting the area and was luckily recommended The Castle by our hotel. We were greeted by the manager and he kindly gave us directions to the physical castle (which we were going to after our drink). What was originally planned just to come for drinks but decided to stay for lunch, our sever Ben couldn’t have been more accommodating considering our son is gluten free. The food was delicious and had much more to it than you would expect in a rural country pub. The manager and his team really made us feel welcome, we definitely plan on coming back again for dinner before while we are up here !
